Red Scalp and Burning Feeling

Posted by L on 03/10/2007

Dear Ted, I have seen where you have helped alot of people out on Earthclinic.com and was wondering if you had any suggestions for my symptoms: Last year i began to lose my hair in a diffuse pattern and didn't think much of it b/c i figured it would stop. About 6 months later i began to lose hair all over my body. My scalp gets really red and i get a burning feeling. The dermatologist can not figure out what's going on because the last time i got a blood test my ANA was negative. Well then i started to get a bunch of different symptoms. For a month there was always something going on. I had a burning feeling in my hands and feet with sharp pains, double vision, muscle weakness like i had worked out for hours, bad headaches, dizziness, memory fog, numbness in face, my eyes were very sensitive to light. For a month these symptoms were really bad and they eventually went away for a lil while. The doctor ran a lupus test on me and he said everything came back negative. Ever since that bad episode i continue to get little episodes of many diff symptoms that don't last very long. I know that sugar and any kind of white bread triggers these symptoms. I keep getting urinary tract infections and weird infections, like nail fungus and my hair is continuing to fall out, growing back very slowly. my last blood test was 3 months ago and i only had my ANA checked and it was still negative they didn't run any other test on me. I wake up every morning with stiff hands and a sore throat. i have been taking Flaxseed oil grape seed extract for antioxidants msm ( just started) calcium with magnesium at least one garlic clove every other day and have just started using tea tree oil and lavender on my head for the hair loss Please do u have any advice? my hair is getting really thin and i have no idea what to do or what to do to help these symptoms. The Doctors i went to months ago didn't seem to take me seriously , i plan to go soon to get some more blood work done.

Email #2: I forgot to mention that about 2 yrs ago before all this started i was on antidepressants (wellbutrin) for a few months and didn't see the need for them and stopped them abruptly without really winging off them like i should have and i had what they called a "withdrawal syndrome" for about a week i was really dizzy, weak, and really nauseated. and for the first time in my life i had allergies. Then maybe 2-3 weeks later the hair loss began...im not sure if this caused my symptoms or just triggered my symptoms? but ever since i haven't been the same. The hair loss has not stopped since and has spread all over my body(eyebrows, lashes, etc). The hair that's falling out is almost white & thin near the bulb of the hair strand along with the burning and the red scalp. Along with all the other symptoms above i just feel like its some sort of autoimmunity..sorry for all the writing..im just really worried and trying to find some hope!

First drink cranberry juice all day and then take later in the day 1 tablespoon of sea salt in 1 glass of water, one dose only. You need not take any more sea salt for about a week.

The sea salt is both alkaline and will discourage the nail fungus growth also.

The body needs chromium in addition to supplements mentioned plus selenium.

The body appears to be acid, so 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda taken twice a day on an empty stomach, mixed in 1/2 glass of water.

For the hair problems, if it is not serious, just take vitamin B complex 2 or 3 times a week. Take some manganese, zinc and biotin should be helpful.

That burning feeling on the scalp appears to be fungus or acid skin, 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water with 1% hydrogen peroxide concentration applied to the scalp for a couple of minutes. The body's lack of nitric oxide production causing slowed hair growth can be enhanced with possibly, L citrulline supplements, or L arginine supplements, usually 1000 mg to 4000 mg.

If your hair has some form of autoimmunity response, than try some iodine foot painting, of if there is some iodine supplements usually of sodium and potassium iodide at 1-5 mg/day, but not every day (4 days out of 7) along with the other supplements mentioned should be helpful. You need not take them every week either. Just once every other week might do for iodine and then once conditions are better, you can discontinue. Iodine foot painting are easier and you need not worry about the dosage, just the frequency is enough like every other day, for example.
