Embedded Blisters in the Skin
Ted - I was following your treatment for toenail fungus that consisted of vinegar/H2o2, bleach/H2O, Vaseline/TTO. I was doing this regularly for about 4-5 weeks when I noticed that I had a burning sensation when applying the bleach and then the TTO. So, I discontinued the bleach & continued with just the vinegar and TTO. About two days later, the skin at the base of the nails being treated swelled up and started itching like crazy. It took about 4 days for the swelling to subside and then I noticed small embedded blisters in the skin around those nails (much like those you would see in a cold sore on your lip). The blisters slowly spread outward. Mind you, I discontinued the use of the treatment as soon as this happened. I'm not totally sure what it was, but started treating it like athlete's foot. It's still not totally better, but at least it doesn't itch like mad anymore. Any idea what this is and what could have caused it. And most importantly, how do I get rid of it because I'd love to go back to the toenail treatments...it was working like a charm! Thanks.
Your skin seems to have a real problem with the bleach. It is either too strong or you did not completely rinsed out all the bleached. It takes several minutes of rinsing out all the bleach, before starting the next step, otherwise it is going to cause blisters.
When this happens, you will really have a skin problem and it will take 4 days to recover. Since I don't know how well you removed the bleach, it is best to restart again, but this time without the bleach and dilute the H2o2/VINEGAR solution. It is my feeling that you have a sensitive skin.
The other issue is when you apply Tea tree oil, the moisture prevents the fungus from evaporating. So I assume this might also be a problem. Therefore try a completely opposite strategy. Apply tea tree oil only lightly this time assuming you have sensitive skin and don't use the Vicks.
If this doesn't work for you (tea tree that is), the just get a borax powder and talcum powder (50/50) and put it generously on the foot and get the socks to cover it. This will keep it dry and no more fungus.
