How Much Citric Acid Do I Add

Posted by D on 07/06/2007

I bought citric acid. My question is if I mix two ounces EACH of white vinegar and peroxide - 4 oz. total of liquid, how much citric acid do I add ? Thank you for your help. Also, how long do you think it will take to get rid of the problem

Debra: In a 4 oz. solution a 5% citric acid should be about 0.2 ounces or 5 grams, which is roughly 2 teaspoons. It will take about a month to notice a fair improvement. If no improvement is seen then see below for a newer remedy that I am looking into.

There are other formulas that might be more effective in killing of fungus, such as an alkaline method. The solution is magnesium hydroxide (milk of magnesia) 2 tablespoon, 4 tablespoon of ammonium bicarbonate, and one 1/2 tablespoon of borax to one cup of water. Ammonium bicarbonate was once popular in baking before baking soda took over. However this requires soaking them for about an hour. The problem about this strange remedy is finding the said chemicals!
