My response to an email regarding oil pulling:

Oil pulling depend on your objectives. The old oil pulling objective is to kill microorganisms. This is why they do 20 minutes using sunflower oil or sesame seed oil. As for me, oil pulling is done for 5 minutes using mostly olive oil or coconut oil with two objectives that I found resolves nearly all problems regarding the use of sesame seed oil and sunflower oil. The major problems appear that most people have heavy metal overload such as mercury. To do too long the oil pulling may cause excessive buildup of mercury and may go into your system if done for 20 minutes. Since I have a heavy metal tester I found oils uptake heavy metal very quickly in as little as 1 minute and need not do over 5 minutes limit. The second problem is virus and sore throat becomes a real problem with use of sesame or sunflower. The only oil pulling I have found without side effects come from olive oil and coconut oil. Coconut oil is antiviral and olive oil is somewhat antiviral, and both oils remove heavy metal form saliva being recirculated back to the body. The best way to remove bacteria is the use of toothpaste and simple brushing but to rid body of heavy metals oil pulling stands out. The use of coconut oil especially is antiviral and I used them against Pakinsons, Alzheimer, and ALS as I found personally are linked to virus. Alzheimer's is the HSV1 herpes simplex type 1 and ALS is linked to adenovirus while Parkinsons is linked to a flu virus, and coconut oil contains lauric which is antiviral, while olive oil is a efficient in removing heavy metal. OP in cats is difficult the easiest is to let cats consume coconut oil and salmon fish oil mixed in food or granulated lecithin also helps. Eating sulfur rich foods (garlic) and supplements helps especially taking 500 mg a day of N acetyl cysteine.

Ted-Thank you so much for your valuable information, you have helped countless of lives throughout the world! Just to clarify, are you now suggesting we OPer's should now only use either Coconut Oil or Olive Oil for 5 minutes and we will get the same benefits but with less chance of heavy metals being reintroduced into the bloodstream. If so that would be great, if I can do it in less time the better!

Dear Ted,

Thank you for all this valuable information! I am 53 years old (young! ) and have just found this website to be invaluable. A question about OP, I just started last week with EVOO and noticed that I am breaking out all over my face, especially on my forehead. Is this a normal effect of the OP? I want to try so many things, but I think I am going to try and do only a few things at a time. I am taking an energy green powder in the morning on an empty stomach mixed with liquid vitamin d3, 2 tbs of chorophyll and a dropperful of guarnine. I don't want to overdue it. I am also taking 2tbs of organic ACV on a daily basis. My main objectives are to lose weight, get relief from RA, better eyesight, hair loss and a general feeling of lethargy. My skin is super dry and no matter how much creams or lotion I apply, it doesn't help. I tried taking coconut oil, but I couldn't stomach it. Would coconut oil tablets have the same benefits? I'm not asking for too much am I? LOL!

Hi. The breakout is undoubtedly a detox thing - the skin is a major detoxing organ and the oil-pulling probably triggered your body into having a clear out.

I too am 53 and it has taken me all these years to finally get a handle on my health. I have tried all sorts of diets and treatments but none of them worked until I found a healing diet run by Bee Wilder. I have been on it for 10 months now and although it doesn't give overnight results, I, and a lot of other people are gradually heaing, and it is wonderful. Her advice is free and her diet is based wholly on natural foods including coconut oil and real sea salt, and a few basic over-the-counter supplements.

Things like oil-pulling and acupuncture, etc. , can be used to support the benefits of the diet.

I have had Candida for over 40 years, and it is only now that I am finally getting rid of it and seeing many things healing in my body. It's wonderful.

Fbk227 - try taking nightly soaks in a tub filled with very warm water, 1 lb of baking soda (that's usually 1 pkg), and 2 cups of Epsom salts. That should help your skin along in the detox process. Soak for at least 20 minutes, and DONT RINSE before getting out. Mooisturize your wet body with an organic oil, pat dry, and put on your jammies. You will sleep like a baby and your skin will clear up!

@ Fbk227 I have found that it is a good idea to detoxify the skin by sitting in a hot bath (as hot as you can stand for 20 minutes) so that your skin can detox by sweating. Then a quick rinse off to remove the sweat/toxins from your skin should help the skin to clear up. (This also works by sitting in a hot sauna for the required 20 minutes with a quick rinse off after the sweating occurs.

OK..... This is great!! I am giving it a shot as we speak as I am generally healthy (with the exception of fatigue.... Due to STRESS) I recently got a bug bite which turned into some sort of infection that either is still lingering or just side affects from antibiotics..... Well my TOUNGE turned brownish yellow, then white and just doesnt seem to want to completely go away!!! I believe it is due to all the antibiotics? It has been lingering for almost a MONTH now..... Anyway wanted to add an FYI and see if any of you know about this..... Blood type and remedies..... Says in a book I have that OLIVE oil is great for my blood type, but Coconut oil is something to avoid..... So maybe the results you get from OP could be related to what oil you are using..... Depending on your blood type!! Any thoughts or experience?

Dear Ted,

You said 'virus and sore throat becomes a real problem with use of sesame/sunflower oil'. I have been using sunflower oil for 20 minutes a day for about 3 weeks and I've noticed extreme dryness in my mouth, my cheeks sticking to teeth etc. Although I'm drinking regularly and about 2 litres a day. I've never had this before and am convinced it's the sunflower oil. Why is this? Is it linked to your quote about a virus? Would you recommend I switch to using olive oil or coconut oil for 5 minutes instead, and does this give you all the benefits but none of the risks of re-absorbing metals? Many thanks!

Oil pulling: I added one drop of tea tree oil to the sesame oil, and the white coating on my tongue was completely gone in 3 treatments.

@Ruth from Uk--Yes sunflower produces these side effects (infection and sore throats). The preferred oils are coconut oil, because lauric acid is antiviral in coconut oil, which makes ideal for oil pulling because it doesn't cause this. Olive oil is the same (especially extra virgin) olive oil as it contains antiviral oleuropin. That's the weakness of sunflower oil. All oils work the same in detoxing heavy metals out, but you need coconut oil and olive oil as they have additional antibiotic qualities, that sunflower oil and sesame seed miss. And the most common complaints are about sunflower oil and sesame seed, people having dry mouth, and other problems, that olive oil and coconut oil works better.

I'm curious, since the oil pulls out heavy metals, does that mean that it's a bad idea to do oil pulling if you have mercury fillings? Would the oil help bring mercury out of the fillings to be more easily absorbed in the mouth?

I have a question.... I have 3 broken back (molars, and sections of my teeth are missing) teeth, will Oil Pulling, with any kind of oil, make my mercury fillings fall out? In a perfect world I would love to have them replaced with the new non-mercury fillings because I don't like the thought of the mercury seeping into my system. But as I cannot afford to have them replaced I need to be able to keep them until I can replace them. I am also taking St John's Wort, Vitamin C, Kelp and am currently taking an iron supplement because I was anemic, will these interfere with the OP. Plus I really need to lose weight. I also have a friend who is having a terrible time with abscesses and broken front teeth due to a recent car accident, will Oil Puling help her with the abscesses? The doctors keep giving her antibiotics, I keep telling her she is becoming immune to them.
