Posted by C. D. (Indonesia) on 05/04/2008

Ted, I read yr beautiful insights @ the earthclinic.com. Right now im suffering from scalp problems. I used to have beautiful hair, but right now i got quite hair loss, dandruff, itchy scalp, and smelly odor, plus i got pimples sort of. Ive been trying diff shampoos and everythin. but nothin seems to help me. ive been wasting lot of money on this. i even tried baking soda for washing hair, but it didnt help me much also. right now im trying to find borax powder on the net, since i live in indonesia and i couldnt find any here (since borax is know as a food preservative and banned from indonesia). and ive already checked some site like mountainroseherbs and some more, but the shipping costs is just killing me. Can you recommend some sites where im able to buy it with reasonable shipping costs? or should i buy it from you? thx a lot. im so desperate and hoping that you could help me..thx

This is for C.D. in Indonesia. Silversmiths in Bali use pure Borax crystals for flux when they solder. It is usually in a crystalline form, sometimes in powder. You can buy it inexpensively at a jeweler supply store in Celuk in Bali, or Kota Gede in Yogyakarta. I don't know Jakarta, but there must be somewhere there. Sorry, I cannot remember the exact name in Indonesian. Hope this helps.

The food you are eating might be acid forming. I would try avoiding acid forming foods, such as tomatoes, white flour, white bread, aspartame, sugar free foods, sugar, glucose, corn syrup, all fruits, mushrooms, cheese, milk, and peppermint found in toothpaste.

Secondly I would try to take baking soda such as 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water three times a day, whey protein 4 tablespoon once in the morning, and drink some soy milk since it is rich in manganese.

People with low protein intake, high fat, high sugar, high vegetable oils may have scalp problems. The blood urea are anti-fungal, but they are low and cannot properly utilize the proteins if the bicarbonate level in the body is low and protein levels are also low, and it doesn't help if sugar intake are high. Some once a week evening primrose oil, and fish oil would increase the immune system.

A simple solution that might be easier to find that is anti-fungal substitute for borax might be a 2-5% solution of ammonium chloride, or ammonium bicarbonate that might be available in a drug store or shops that sells plant. Those are use as an external solution. If mixed with 5% milk of magnesia it works better, may cause some stinging but it kills the fungus relatively quickly.

I believe that avoiding certain foods and baking soda, plus a substitute of borax using an ammonium compound might be a more practical solution for you and you save money too. Taking daily multivitamins and minerals are also helpful, but the most important remedy appears to be whey protein taken in the morning plus baking soda. 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in one liter of drinking water should be drank instead of sea salt free water, which lowers the body's immune system from lack of trace micro-minerals and key electrolytes.
