Side Effects and Interactions?

I have been taking Virgin coconut oil for low thyroid, persistent postnasal catarrh and general poor health, including systemic candida (which I thought I had treated successfully) for several years. I am 52 and must be peri-menopausal. All my problems are probably caused by chronic high stress for past 20 years. I have been taking VCO for about 4 months now and my symptoms are worsening almost daily. I have also gained weight, especially around my abdomen (which is where I wanted to lose it from). Right now I feel utterly exhausted, have a headache and my muscles are sore and weak - I have been like this for several days ( all my problems seem to be worse - can you tell me why? I am up to 2 tablespoons a day am and pm. Is this too much? I am quite short and normally weigh 71/2 stone, but have put on half a stone. Could there be a reaction that is lasting a few weeks. I am also more constipated and this is not usual for me. I take several supplements - is there anything that VCO could react with? I am desperate - please advise.

Yes, your conditions seems to be that the body is quite acid. In the future, earthclinic or at least many people in earthclinic will see that most conditions are due to acidity as the foundation to most of the problems.

Constipation is a condition of acidity. Excess taking of oils and most of the supplements sadly, are acid forming.

For not it appears that drinking plenty of water and some weekly fasting that last only one day will help. However a much simpler way is to simply avoid eating dinner or be sure the dinner is very light where it is only salad, and use MINIMUM only italian dressing. No drinks of any kind except water or water with some sea salt is acceptable. The makeup of the meals should be 80% green leafy vegetables and whole fruits and 20% meats, but never overcooked.

A temporary measure is in effect. It is best to avoid taking any oils for now, fried foods, oily food and even coconut oil at least for now. The reason is that most oils are acid forming, coconut oil is lauric acid, for example.

The second is to avoid acid forming food, such as bread, fruit juices, meats most of the time, white flour, pastries, sugar, sweet foods of all kind, no bacon, and no prepared foods. Take only home cooked food, using fresh foods at a local fresh market, not supermarket. The foods are more real and more nutritious, and are often cheaper.

The third is to pare down or discontinue the supplements temporarily until the body is better. Certain supplements that tend to clogged up the systems tend to be calcium added to it. Supplements is best taken only 3 days out of 7 days, or 4 days out of 7 days. The body works in cycles.

If you are taking this weight problem seriously, if you can get an electronic pocket pH meter or a good pH paper (but they are often problematic in being off sometimes, however Merck brand pH paper is often good).

The fourth is to remove excess oils, granulated powdered lecithin, are the best, as they are good oil emulsifiers. Therefore, taking one tablespoon along with every meal of food shall allow the body to better process fats and removal of fats from the body better.

Fifth and most importantly, the body need vitamin C in form of sodium ascorbate so that the body can achieve an antioxidant state, and be able to normalized most conditions. Usually in between 500-1000 mg/day of sodium ascorbate I think I would take if I have this kind of a problem, but this is taken about 5 days out of 7.

Sixth the old baking soda formula. Since this condition is unique in that several biological parameters are way off, I think you need a more powerful lime and baking soda formula, or if lime is not available, then lemon and baking soda would do. Basically, one whole lemon or two whole lime, then add baking soda until the fizz stops then add water to 1/2 glass of water. This is taken twice a day.

And lastly get a good quality sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon per liter of drinking water. Since UK water mostly is fluoridated and chlorinated, removing them with a pinch of borax and dechlorinator which is obtained from pet shops for aquarium, without any color, it will be clear is added to drinking water about 2-3 drops to neutralized them. The sea salt mineral are alkaline forming and good and this will restore many trace mineral imbalances the body needs. Use this a a drinking water for the day. If you drink more than usual the water, then get another liter of water also with 1/4 teaspoon per liter..and so on.

Your conditions and constipation should improve within a week. Should everything be back to normal supplements in general can be taken 3-4 days out of a week and coconut oil be reduced to 1 tablespoon but WELL-MIXED WITH 1 tablespoon OF GRANULATED POWDERED LECITHIN. I don't know why these supplement companies are going on capsules, but it doesn't help absorption at all on the lecithin and these capsules in general are hydrophobic. You can do a lecithin digestion test. Put one tablespoon of granulated powdered lecithin in one glass of water, wait 15 minutes. Another get a softgel lecithin capsule, wait 15 minutes. You will see what I mean. The capsule even after dissolved will not mix (even with stirring!), so you can tell that it is not going into your system. This is why granulated powdered lecithin works better and often recommended.
