B: A healthy body (but most people are not that healthy) can easily produce 10,000 i.u. The range I think is appropriate is anywhere from 2000 i.u. to 20,000 i.u. Most vitamin D2 do not sell in the 10,000 i.u. to 20,000 i.u. but are used by doctors and their dose is a lot larger than what i stated here for treatment on rickets and other related bone problem. The body when it reaches that age, produces only about 1/6 of the vitamin D the body required. The problem is the body cannot produced as much even in a sunlight. Some people with lupus cannot even get exposed to sunlight because the free radicals from UV created autoimmunity, so it is obvious they will lack vitamin D. Magnesium should be taken along with the vitamin D so the body will get the critical Magnesium: calcium ratio in order too.
