Remedies Needed for Ocd, Extreme Anxiety, Depression

Posted by Anonymous on 11/30/2008

I just read some of the suggestions given to one of the patient having ocd. I have ocd myself since I'm a young child, I check things over and over hundreds of time, after I check I'm never satisfied because I systematically doubt my checking. So if I check the cooking stove to make sure it is turned off, I can check for hours and never be satisfied. I'm also delusional as now I imagine that I have done things that could be dangerous for people around me so I have to check and check again to make sure every thing is safe around them. I check people cups and bottles and drink as I feel somehow they could have something dangerous inside... Except that I have extreme anxiety, depression, and I'm not crazy so I hate my behavior... I have been in all tips of natural remedies, 5 htp, borage oil, fish oil, acetyl l carnitine, biotin chronium magnesium molybdenum, selenomethionine d3, zinc, vit c.... also I have tried medication luvox zoloft, risperdall, and I'm now taling prozac... I fell despair, if you have a suggestion for me I would be really grateful. Thanks a lot

People with obsessive compulsive disorder may have certain deficiencies in calcium. There was a case of a patient who was taking calcium channel blockers (CCB) which caused a worsening symptoms of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Upon discontinuation of CCB the symptoms of this stopped. I therefore believe that vitamin D2 or D3 (20,000 i.u.) will cause an increase in calcium to the brain, and maybe it is possible that a calcium magnesium supplements such as 1000 mg might also be useful. It is hypothesized that cerebral calcium deficiency is one of the issues. This may be no coincidence as I observe the severity of OCD gets worse with colder temperatures and less sun and the condition seems to reduced if the person visit tropical area where there is more sun, and hence, more vitamin D2. The vitamin D I used are usually D3 or D2 in case D3 isn't available, and the dose is quite often 20,000 i.u. to 60,000 i.u. a day, until the condition reduced themselves. If they don't certain other initiator such as aspartame and artificial sugar (as well as hydrocarbon exposures as in benzene found in coke from breakdown of benzoic acid used as preservative) initiated not only OCD, but in certain in another case, caused a Tourettes syndrome. Upon discontinuuing artificial sugars, color yellow dye (tatrazine), and aspartame (which is found in many diet coke and gums) seems to gone away or at least lessen the problem. People have commented to me why some Australians are laid back, when these people were originally British, and one thing may be that there's more sun in Australia and hence more vitamin D. As being only a part of the cause.

The simplest way to find most major causes that lead to OCD is simply getting a hair mineral analysis and watch which minerals are either almost non-existent, or off the charts. Those can be revealing at times, one note might be to keep watch on manganese toxicity (e.g. manganese madness), which in excess also leads to this condition (such as exposure to welding with manganese dust), as is carbon monoxide poisoning, from exposure to gas stove heaters that has improper circulation of air.

One other thing that I have found is excessive metals that may exist that enters the neural system (in the angular cingulate area) which causes excessive excited states of neural metabolism. One possibility to remove heavy metals maybe is the l-carnosine 500 mg x 3 supplement and Methyl sulfonyl methane. However, I live in a tropical area and such symptoms here are rare due to a lot of sun exposure anyway, but there are exceptions such as drinking Coke zero and chewing gums with aspartame that leads to that condition still. So the incidence here may likely increase in the near future. Other things I might try are also taurine, which is neuroprotective and sodium thiosulfate (dechlorinator) that removes heavy metals. So perhaps the big difference between my list and yours might be one of the problem why there's some lack of success. It is possible to alkalize the brain and reduce some hyperactivity from excessive acidity, which burns out the nerves, is the use of carbicarb + potassium remedy I employ sometimes. The dose is a conservative 1/4 teaspoon of sodium carbonate + 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate in a 1/2 glass of water taken perhaps 3 times a day may lessen this acid brain issue. Eating meats and acid forming food may worsen the condition, in particular is the wheat, mushrooms, sugar, MSG,coffee and especially aspartame. Therefore, I would very likely to read the labels before consuming any perpared food products.

Ted

P.S. Vitamins used to treat Obsessive compulsive disorder are vitamin B8 Inositol, perhaps 1000 mg, and perhaps B5 calcium pantothenate that I am aware of. Some people with certain B deficiencies can lead to certain psychological problems also.

Hello Ted! I have been suffering from anxiety, depression and OCD for over ten years or more! I am trying a few of the remedies recommended here on earthclinic such as Apple Cider Vinegar and Oil Pulling with sunflower oil! I really need to curb my OCD and am not sure by taking vitamin D2 or D3 to increase calcium to my brain will help or not because in an earlier 4/12/09 reply you mention too much calcium restricts blood flow in the brain! Granted, I have been off of cows milk for some time now & don't drink OJ because its pricey these days but do drink Soy Milk which has calcium! What do I do?

Dear Felipe:

Calcium or vitamin D won't generally help the condition. The cause of OCD, extreme anxiety, and depression are uneven brain metabolism. Some parts are excessive, which has excitotoxin, some parts are of low energy level, which leads to depression, while certain traumas leads to OCD. The best remedy is to reduce the excessive excitotoxins, by avoiding glutamate (MSG), aspartame, and certain foods rich in these, such as aspartic acid, phenylalanine, glutamic acid, are possible and you can look over in the nutritional database that you can google. These foods should containing aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and glutamic acid should generally be low. Sometimes uneven brain metabolism is low in iodine, tyrosine, and antioxidants. The remedy that supports brain functions to be more or less even are omega 3, fish oil, evening primrose oil, which more or less even out the brain metabolism. Energy states of the brain is low leading to depression may be mitochrondria being exposed to free radicals, leading to low energy. The supplements I personally used to help low brain energy level is just 2 drops twice a day of 0.1% methylene blue, which I can get them from a aquarium shop and further dilute them from 1% to 0.1% and taken a 2 drops twice a day. Other supplements helpful are taurine, vitamin C and some vitamin B50 taken once or twice a week. Those are more directly the supplements that help brain function, but I can't see their benefits from vitamin D, except for immune system or if the person has a deficiency such as lack of sun exposure due to certain work or environment. Cows generally are vegetarian, and they seem to have enough calcium without the need to drink milk during their adult life and calcium is one of the biomarkers of aging. It tends to increase with age, although I will take vitamin D from time to time to increase lung capacity and muscle atrophy, which is one of the hallmarks of a vitamin D deficiency.

The calcium pantothenate that I have previously mentioned, which is vitamin B5, I have found that in recent literature that the most bioavailable from is the panthenol, which I am currently using to help restore neurological damages caused by strokes, etc.

Thanks for your quick reply Ted! So, from your recommendation I'm going to try vitamin B50 and am curious about methylene blue, since you mention about getting it in an aquarium shop! Really? 2 drops .1% methylene blue twice a day diluted in water? Can I add it to my Apple Cider Vinegar remedy? Thanks again for your feedback!

I have had severe OCD in the past. I have been symptom free for quite awhile now, however last week I had a horrible panic attack. Followed by OCD... L have been looking through Teds posts about MY symptoms of anxiety ect. So I concluded that I would supplement with niacin, magnessium and taurine. I already take some antioxidant supplements & Apple Cider Vinegar BS Potassium bicarbonate, and eat an extreamly healthy diet with no excitotoxins. Didn't feel much of a difference when I added just the mag. or the niacin, but that may be because it takes a couple days to really notice. I had been dealing with extreme anxiety for several days at that point. The day I added the taurine supplement, 2 1000mg a day, the anxiety was non exist. I wish I would have known this years ago. Anxiety is aweful. I had shortness of breath, heart palpations, cold sweats, dizziness, nausea, and felt like I was dying. Thank you Ted! I suppose I wasn't eating enough foods with Taurine in them? I wasn't eating much meat on the week preceding the attack? well I'm guessing from his posts on anxiety etc. That that may have been my issue. All is well now, just thought I would share in case anyone else has anxiety issues!
