5 Year Old with Strep for 2 Months

Posted by Jackie on 03/16/2007

My 5 year old daughter has had strep throat on andoff for about 2 months now. She has taken 2 different kinds of antibiotics. It appears to get better, 2 days after the antibiotic treatment is over, strep throat returns. Any cures for this using hydrogen peroxide? Please help.

Dear Jackie:A relatively mild remedy for strep throat can be relieved by mixing 1/2 teaspoon baking soda plus 10 drops of 3% H2O2 in 1 glass of water. Use only part of it as a mouthwash. Then follow by a 5 minutes interval small sips of the water (approx 1/2 teaspoon) for about 10-20 times. Most of the severe pain should be gone by then. Taken too much all at once may lead to diarrhea, but in my opinion is good as it reduces the toxic buildup and is synergistic with reducing the strep throat pain. If you want a stronger solution (optional and in case it doesn't work), than just add one drop of povidone iodine to the solution. The remedy always needs work but this is a relatively mild dose.

For an adult dose strep throat, the solution would be twice the strength, such as 20 drops 3% H2O2 and 1 tablespoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water, plus a couple of drops of iodine (3-4). Iodine is optional. Then stir. And taken at about small sips of 1/2 teaspoon also at 5 minute interval. The iodine is added in that I found out most bacteria (or viruses) looses its grip on the throat walls in presence of iodine. Once it looses its grips, they simply can't form colonies. While iodine doesn't kill them (they are relatively mild), the peroxide and baking soda will do the rest. This may work for both strep and staph.

If you can get a non-sugar (no apartame!) zinc lozenges (from zinc gluconate or zinc acetate) with xylitol, which works mostly for viral sore throat. Of course I don't know it there is one on the market, but I make my own to help ward off sore throat virus. A not too hot strong green tea sipped slowly every 5 minutes interval for about 20 times (1/2 teaspoon each time slow swallowing) but you need to add that with1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in the cup to increase its strength, may work to some extent also. Tannin contents are both antiviral and antibacterial by killing the cells walls through denaturation of the protein makeup of the microbes. Of course, adding peppermint oil further the potency in it too, by reacting with it too.

While this is not a perfect formula, it works for me every time in reducing most of the throat pain.

Would probably be a good idea to use a 'food grade' hydrogen peroxide when for consumption as the other stuff from the chemist contains chemical stabilisers as H2O2 is very unstable. I would do your homework on the pros & cons on H2O2 therapy before commencing any regime.
