Questions About Taking Coconut Oil for Mono

Posted by L. on 05/23/2008

I have recently been tested positive for mono. I have been reading about coconut oil on Earth Clinic for months now, but im trying to figure out how to take it. There seems to be lots of confusion about regular coconut oil and virgin coconut oil. I have coconut oil that i bought at an Indian market that doesn't say virgin coconut oil on the bottle but it does say "It contains scientifically filtered edible oil made from coconuts." I have been using this on my face and it helped heal and clear it up tremendously within only a week. Would it be bad to take this oil internally, or should i take Virgin coconut oil? Thank you very much.

Chemically speaking coconut oil or virgin coconut oil, are the same as they contain the antiviral compound lauric acid. I used personally coconut oil, without any reference to virgin or not f. Usually coconut oil, at least in Thailand are either used for cooking or for lighting purposes (as in candles), so I have to make sure that the coconut can be indeed used for cooking if I were to use that also as a remedy against virus, as lauric acid, a component of coconut oil to kill the virus. However, I am more middle ground preferring to get the body's biochemistry in normal balance, as well as taking the antiviral remedy.

For me antiviral remedy doesn't make sense if I don't get the body in balance. A couple of newer remedies necessary to raise the immune system, is the omega 3 to omega 6 balance.

Recently the omega 6 to omega 3 balance has been greatly distorted where Americans due to Industrialized Farming and fast growing chickens and growth hormones injected into cows that U.S. people now have omega 6: omega 3 by 20: 1 while the Japanese and some Asian countries where mononucleosis is almost unknown, has an omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of between 1:1 to 4: 1. Ideal fish oil is the derived from of omega 3 often referred to as type 2, which is the EPA and DHA found in fish oil that is quite helpful in immunity disorders.

That said, both zinc and magnesium are antiviral and I had direct experience from it's antiviral properties, otherwise I won't mentioned them! Maybe I am a doubting Thomas! The zinc gluconate is 50 mg and often taken for twice a week, while magnesium gluconate 500 mg is often taken at once a day, usually 5 days out of a week, for most general dose of an adult so a younger adult might take just half the dose, on basis of per weight basis assuming a small frame adult to be 100 pounds. So a person of 50 pounds would take one half the dose for example.

Since mononucleosis or mono is often Epstein Barr virus (interestingly there is Epstein Barr viruses now found in vaccines - I don't know what pharmaceutical companies are thinking about when they add these in), but in my experience the most effective recovery against Epstein Barr viruses is the alkalizing. However, weakness or lack of energy is often helped mostly (in the short term and quick results) is the taking of vitamin E and vitamin B complex together. But longer term clear improvement, is the baking soda. The common dose for most adult dose is 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water at least, but preferably 1 glass often three times a day. But for general dose, and smaller frame people who weighs between 50-100 pound it's going to be 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water usually at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Epstein Barr virus are relatively difficult to kill off but they do have weakness against alkalization. In some cases the Epstein Barr viruses goes all the way to the brain causing sleeping disorder, in which case a stronger remedy is needed there often called astenia, which uses sodium carbonate mix often called the carbicarb remedy. These kinds of condition will be posted separately for conditions of chronic conditions of Epstein Barr Virus, long term Chronic Fatigue for example. In some case they manifest itself and goes to the liver to cause hepatitis problem in which case an addition of quercetin is needed, along with granulated lecithin to reduce that problem as well as milk thistle, which is somewhat less effective, but is helpful also.

It should be noted that in some cases of Epstein Barr viruses, some people reported sore throat which the bacteria strep throat sets in. In which case I would use a zinc chloride added mouthwash (such as Lavoris brand, which do have zinc) or zinc and xylitol toothpaste for example. Usually marketers are slow to make good effective products, which I often ended up making my own toothpaste. The most effective so far is the zinc and xylitol toothpaste.

That said, I will try to make a mixture for sore throat against strep throat, a teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water and make small 5 cc sip every five minutes about 5 or 10 times and then discard the rest. Or I can make a stronger 1/2 teaspoon of sodium carbonate in 1/2 glass of water, but use it ONLY as a mouthwash. A baking soda I may use as a gargle. These usually works at least to reduce the pain and they are only short term solution in killing them.

A longer term solution is still required where the mouth pH is often acid, such that the mouth pH or saliva pH is below 7, which promotes strep throat, but also magnesium deficiency or low magnesium can also help worsen them too. If the saliva pH is below 7, and I used an electronic pH meter, then I found my pH to be acid, then I might add potassium bicarbonate to the mix to increase the saliva pH. The remedy for most adults is often 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate (or potassium citrate) in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day. I often take it for about a week and stopped, wherein the maintenance dose becomes just only 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda from then on, once of course I know that the saliva pH is raised, i would stop adding the potassium. It should be noted that many people have low tolerance for potassium and during the Middle Ages in Europe, their high potassium caused weakness in people that sea salt was a valuable commodity that is used as a trading currency. If that is used today, not possible, than we might not have inflation from government printing too much paper money, and besides people will eat the currency of salt as a dietary supplements! lol. Anyway, if the baking soda is too weak to help sore throat, using a baking soda and sea salt as a mouthwash is a stronger solution to kill the strep throat also.
