Yeast Infection Since First Pregnancy

Posted by Lisa (FL) on 08/25/2006

I have been dealing with yeast infections since my first pregnancy, 14 years ago. I also remember as a child having one. I have seen specialists, my gyno, I feel no one can help me and they are exhausted with my condition. I even had a Dr. tell me. there is nothing else I can do for you. I tried Depo, monistat, yogurt, Diflucan, which used to temp. work until now. I get a yeast infection every month about a week after I start my period and it lasts until I am about ready to start my next period. This has been the pattern now for about four months and prior to that I would get them about 5-6 times a year. I have recently took almost all sugars out of my diet and started garlic, vitamin C, and adicophilus tablets. I have read so much about Candida that I myself am exhausted mentally and physically. Needless to say my sex life is practically non existent. So far I don't know if these pills are working I have only taken them for two days. I would like to try some of the recommendations on this site. I just don't know which one to try. Everyone has their own opinion and experience. Any recommendations would be so helpful. I am putting off calling my Dr. for now. I just saw him last week and he pres. me fluconazole. I have taken two pills since then and still have symptoms, not as bad as before, but still irritated.

Lisa: Most alternative medicine, which are basically holistic, the use of natural therapies tend to be synergistic as opposed to antagonistic as most pharmaceutical drugs are.

Taking together plenty of garlic oil, selenium, zinc, and vitamin B complex will be your best approach instead of trying them individually. These supplements work together like a soccer team, instead of like an individual marathon competition.

One additional complement to the candida issue is to take 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day once in the morning and evening to balance out your pH making it unfavorable for candida to grow if your urinary pH is reaches near 6.5-7.35.

Other people who do have successes are such as these: http://www.ithyroid.com/candida.htm

"Following this and supplementation with zinc and selenium, my candida and hypoT both ended."

"Selenium deficiency and anemia appear to be the biggest factors in promoting candida growth. Years ago when I had hypoT I also had a severe candida infection. I found a book titled "Candida: Silver (Mercury) Fillings and the Immune System" which eventually led me to getting my mercury fillings removed. Following this and supplementation with zinc and selenium, my candida and hypoT both ended.

Experiments with animals show that candida growth can be increased by selenium deprivation and reduced by selenium supplementation. Since mercury depletes selenium, it makes sense that candida is higher when there are mercury fillings in the teeth.

Other studies show that anemia and iron deficiency increase candida growth. There are some studies suggesting that B12 and folic acid deficiencies may be involved in candida, since deficiencies of these lead to anemia. In anemia and iron deficiency friendly bacteria cannot grow well in the body. A lack of these bacteria probably is a key factor which promotes candida growth, since candida is a fungal growth rather than a bacteria growth. "

To make it work better in pharmaceutical they call it "cocktails" where a combination of drugs worked more effectively than any individual drugs. Food would also taste bad if you only eat one individual food and it will also cause you to be deficient in many vitamins and minerals if that is done.
