Balding Remedy Causing Infection

Posted by FP (South Africa) on 05/25/2007

Hi Ted, I think your information on remedies for different scalp problems must be very helpful for people who cannot afford to go to dermatologists every time (long queues and more than normal charges). I also would like to benefit from your suggestions. I am using Dr. Reddy's Mintop forte (minoxidil 5%) for hair regrowth. It seems to be working for me. But, I am having trouble with scalp infection. My scalp has developed small infection with itching/irritation having small reddish spots. This has been suggested in the side effects of the medicine but there is no mention of the treatment for this side effects. I am loosing hair due this problem (itching/irritation). I don't want to stop the treatment so,please suggest me a home remedy for this so that I can cure this infection and continue the hair regrowth treatment

Minoxidil side effects is red spots and scalp irritations. The additions I put in that helps reduce the irritation if I were to apply them is lavender oil applied overnight or at a suitable time. Most doctors would prescribe hydrocortisone to reduce the irritation. As to the issue of hair loss, I would usually take vitamin C and perhaps manganese gluconate, in case manganese sulfate supplement cannot be found. Manganese works best if taken on empty stomach and the tablet is powdered mixed in water.
